Angelfish Breeding

You will need some supplies if you want to start angelfish breeding. First, you must use 10-gallon of continuous water filled tanks with sponge filter. A slate with 30 angles is also needed. By putting a slate on your tank, you can clean your tank easily. Now you must water quality and different kinds of diets if you want to put your angels into breeding moods. You can also warm up the water up to five degrees before you pour it on the tank where other angels are already in the breeding process. Healthy male and female angels can be easily paired up and will soon start spawning in no time. Just make sure that they don’t have any defects which might be inherited by their fry.

Angelfish breeding usually happen on a slate. Make sure to take out all the eggs as soon as the mother angel lay its eggs to be certain that no other fish will eat it up or worst, parent angels can even eat their own eggs. Most breeders put some methylene to put off some fungus and even use some airstone in replacement of the parent angels. By doing this method you can even help the chances of parents eating their own eggs as they tend to be very hungry after the process of fertilization.

In community tanks, angelfish breeding can do happen to. Mother angel lay its eggs on the filter tube. Some angels will protect its eggs though some may eat up the eggs as soon as the mother eggs lay it on together with the other fishes on the tank. You must do something about the angel’s eggs, as a breeder. It doesn’t matter to them whether they will gobble up their own fry especially when angelfish are hungry. Being aggressive is another trait of them that could add up to this thing to happen.

In just a few days, you will soon see some tiny eggs with wiggling tails on the slate and soon their heads will come out. Newly hatched angelfish soak up their own yolk. You may observe that as soon as the eggs are hatched, parent angels become aggressive and territorial as they protect their new angels but the real problem happens at night when a catfish strikes and could gobble up the whole nest of eggs. The long fins of the angels are not that enough and strong to defeat the catfish as well as the snails. That is why parent angels still need their breeder’s help in keeping their eggs safe and sound from predators lurking around their tank or aquarium. They might be aggressive at some times but they are still fragile compare to other fishes.
